Room Information

Our bedrooms are each named after one of Minnesota's 10,000+ lakes. Each lake is a reminder of the memories and special gatherings that we have had over the years. For more information, check out the Floor Plans and Renderings.

Why Detroit Lake? Myron, and especially Stacy, spent countless summer days in the Detroit Lakes area. Many memories have been made together over the years at WeFest country music festival, Zorbaz, and cabin-stays at the many surrounding lakes with dear friends.

Fun Facts:

  • Detroit Lakes (the town) didn’t always have this name. It was formerly just “Detroit” but was renamed Detroit Lakes in 1926.

  • Lake has a mile-long city beach

  • During the summer, the population grows to about 13,000, up from 10,000 the rest of the year.

This room has a king bed and is attached to a bathroom that is also accessible via hallway. Located on the main level, the kitchen and Great Room are just down the hall.

Why Floyd Lake? We had to pay homage to Floyd and Ellen, who bought this house in 1961 and raised a family of 3 here. Floyd spent ~60 years in this house – tinkering and doing projects. Floyd dedicated his career and personal life to learning. He loved science and doing anything hands-on.

The original house was built in 1927. It was small. Floyd always wanted to make it bigger. He started by adding a garage and large porch, and in the 1980s added the Great Room and 3rd level, but never completed it because he couldn’t figure out how to move the bathroom without disrupting Ellen.

This bedroom is located on the main level and next to both bathrooms on the main level. The kitchen and Great Room are just a few steps away.

Why Gilmore Lake? It is one of the clearest lakes in Minnesota, with miles of clear water and the ability to see deep, including seeing fish swimming. Paddleboarding is an especially neat experience.

Quiet and quaint most of the time, yet lots of fishing, pontooning, waterskiing, and tubing. Stacy, Myron, and their 3 kids have spent many annual family weekends at Gilmore, given that Stacy’s cousin lives on the lake.

Little Sand Lake is located across the road from Gilmore, a much larger lake and often busier with recreation and fishing (and Zorbaz!).

This room is 1 of 4 bedrooms on the third level of the house, and directly across the hall from bathroom with partitioned toilet, shower and vanity.

Why Hidden Lake? It will speak for itself when you arrive! It includes an element of surprise-and-delight in The Gathering Place.

This extra-long bunk room has 3 sets of generously-sized bunk beds to accommodate either kids or adults. It comfortably sleeps 9:

  • Queen over queen

  • Twin XL over queen

  • Twin XL over twin XL

This room is 1 of 4 bedrooms on the third level of the house, and just down the hall from bathroom with partitioned toilet, shower and vanity.

Why Oehrline Lake? While it's technically more of an overgrown pond (and recognized by the DNR as a wetland), Oehrline Lake has been home to us for 25 years, and was home to Floyd & Ellen for 60 years.

Oehrline Lake was smaller 50 years ago. It was only a marshy area by Floyd’s house, but Floyd wanted to enjoy the lake too. He convinced his neighbor - a Senator - to help fund dredging the marsh to extend the lake to their backyards, which is what you see today. It is not a deep lake, but has bullheads and the occasional sunfish...and turtles.

This room is 1 of 4 bedrooms on the third level of the house, and next to full bathroom with partitioned toilet, shower and vanity areas.

Why Twin Lake names? Because these two rooms are nearly identical and next to each other.

Like Detroit Lake, these lakes have a nearby town with the same name. Upper Twin Lake and Lower Twin Lake are located in southern MN, near Albert Lea and have a population just over 700.

Minnesota has multiple "Twin Lakes" with different characteristics, such as the Twin Lakes near Ely which have deep spots and channels, and the Twin Lakes in Twin Lakes Township which have historical significance as a former county seat and a location of an old stagecoach inn. Other Twin Lakes are located near Oak Grove and Elk River and have public access for fishing and boating.

Located in the lower level, these two bedrooms are next to a full size bathroom with shower & bathtub, and down the hall from laundry room and rec/game room.

  • Average depth of Lake Superior is 483 feet with its deepest point reaching 1,332 feet.

  • The shoreline of Lake Superior is 2,726 miles (4,385 km) long and borders the Canadian province of Ontario and the states of Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
